California Day 6: Under the Sea in Monterey
After a yummy breakfast in our cute cottage, we headed for a day at the Monterey Aquarium.
Garrett was extra excited about this visit. There was so much to see, and we each had our favorite parts.
I really enjoyed watching the feedings. We got to watch the aquarium caretakers feed the fish and the otters. They also took the time to educate us on how they took care of them and about the animals. We learned that otters have armpit pockets and the fish in the aquarium don’t each other because they get fed by their handlers at certain times of the day.
The otters, of course, are adorable, so they stole my heart. Garrett really liked the jellyfish, though.
Something else really cool, was we learned a lot of what we saw in the tide pools the day before. There was a lot of “ah-hah” moments. I also really liked the octopus. He was a character.
After seeing all there was to see in the aquarium, we went walking down Cannery Row. The whole area used to be sardine factories. The history is amazing. The shops that are now there, are really neat, and it all lines the beach. We strolled for miles and ate dinner at the Big Fish Grill on the pier. The whole dinner, we watched sea lions and otters in the water.
We ended the evening watching the sunset on Lover’s Point. Romantic, huh?
Monterey, you aren’t too shabby.
